Today was our last day of our spectacular European vacation. The ending to vacation is always bittersweet, for it symbolizes the imminent trek back home to assimilate into reality. That’s why the memories are so important. Unlike most vacations though, I will not return home to the U.S. with my parents tomorrow. Instead, I will ride the train from Milano Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella alone.
This morning we packed up in our Air BnB in Heraklion and gave the Mediterranean one last visit before hopping on Bus #1 to the Heraklion airport. We had a quick flight over to Athens for a two hour layover then touched down in Milan! It was so comforting hearing Italian and reading it on the signs in the airport. Aegean provided us with a greatly needed snack on the plane ride; we especially loved the chocolate cookies.
We had a scary cab ride (the Italians are arguably the craziest drivers) from MXP to our hotel, but we made it to our cozy room. We had a nice farewell dinner at a restaurant close by. It was the perfect way to end our vacation. Our kind waitress thought we were nuts for walking in the dark and cold! This trip holds many unforgettable moments and fond memories. I’m not quite ready for it to end, but it does tomorrow when I have to say goodbye for now once again! “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss. xo ~ e.
