I had a lot of fun today, despite running on five hours of sleep! We had a blast celebrating Lauren’s birthday out last night. It’s the latest I’ve stayed out in the city, but I made it home safely with my friends.
I woke up at 9 AM and decided to take a walk, intending to sit and journal. Instead, I wound up at a hair salon on my street for a shampoo and cut! I was pampered by a male hairdresser (first time I’ve had a man cut my hair) who recently moved here from Milan. He thoroughly washed my hair for twenty minutes, sudsing it up probably five times. After he chopped a few inches off and texturized it before the long process of blowdrying my hair. The haircut was 45 euros which I was not expecting, but it was worth the hour and fifteen minutes of relaxation! Plus, it’s probably the only haircut I’ll get until I go home in May.
After my haircut, I went to the free brunch Marist Italy hosted for us. Tensions have been high with the election, and Marist Italy wanted us to be able to relax and enjoy a nice brunch together. It was a lovely spread! I had granola with yogurt, homefries, Italian bacon, a croissant, coffee, and some other goodies. It was nice to unwind and talk to other FFEs who I haven’t spent a lot of time with.
In continuation of Lauren’s nineteenth birthday celebrate (I can’t believe my friends are turning nineteen), Sarah, Sonia, Lauren, and I went to Piazza Michaelangelo for a picnic. We grabbed paninis on the way at Pino Panino. There was this rack that hung college banners, and it’s very fitting that Marist and Syracuse are right next to each other. I perceived it as a sign that Nicki is still beside me, and it made me a tad emotional. I miss her very much!
We watched the sun set at Piazza Michaelangelo and the moon rise. It was gorgeous, and many people came to admire the scene. We sat on Sarah’s tapestry and enjoyed our sandwiches and the panoramic view of Firenze. The perfect Saturday!
I’m not sure how I’m functioning on 5 hours of sleep, but bed early tonight and another schoolwork day tomorrow. xo ~e.
